I called Phase 5 today and they stated that their first version, priced
at $1395 is now available. They said that it takes 5 weeks to get a
shipment from Germany. The $995 price you have seen in a VTU ad is the
"Mark II" version. I was told that this version is the same except that
it is manufactured in a different way to reduce the cost. They told me
that the "Mark II" version would not be available until December. I also
asked about the I/O module with SCSI II, Ethernet, and Fast serial. They
said that as soon as there is enough demand for it, a production run
would be made.
The question now is, "Do I wait 3 or 4 months for the cheaper one, or can
I make enough money off of the extra rendering speed to buy the more
expensive one".
